WHITE LOTUS FAMILY HEALTH

The following cases are very common and typical of children in my homeopathic practice. Unlike conventional drugs, which are administered in a standardized course and dosage, a homeopathic remedy is individually matched to each child and his or her symptom picture.

CASE STUDY J: Female child, age 5, tonsillitis
Initial visit:
The child was scheduled to have a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy in three months. Her mother was very reluctant for her daughter to undergo this procedure and wanted to see how homeopathic treatment could help her child avoid this surgery. The girl had a history of recurrent upper respiratory and throat infections since age 3. Especially in the winter times, she was prescribed antibiotics every 3-4 weeks. After a winter of antibiotics, she developed chronically swollen tonsils, enlarged adenoids that were obstructing her breathing and halitosis (bad breath).

Eight months later:
Fortunately, the mother could cancel the surgery because with homeopathic treatment, her daughter had no re-occurrence of throat infections. Eight months after her first homeopathic visit, the tonsils have reduced in size, and her nighttime snoring and the halitosis have disappeared. Her general energy picked up and she was less cranky and irritable.

•CASE STUDY K: Male siblings, ages 7 and 6, strep throat
Initial visit:
The boys’ mother was looking for an alternative to antibiotic treatments, to treat her sons’ recurrent strep throat infections. They had already been prescribed three rounds of antibiotics within 10 weeks and when the mother came with the boys, they were in the midst of the fourth recurrence of a throat infection.

The mother was very relieved to see that with homeopathic treatment, the fourth round of antibiotics was avoided and that six months later there was still no recurrence of the strep. The parents also enthusiastically reported that both their children seem healthier overall. The 7-year-old, who had often been listless in the afternoons, could now sustain his energy better throughout the day and the 6-year-old, who was also diagnosed as borderline ADD, had settled more down. Curiously, when their mother first brought the boys back to their MD for a throat-swab after their initial homeopathic treatment, the result was that the elder brother, whose throat looked normal again, tested positively for strep and the younger boy, whose throat still looked red and swollen but with no discomfort, was negative for strep. Both would have been prescribed antibiotics, whereas with homeopathic treatment their constitutional makeup and their distinctive symptom picture were taken into consideration.

One year later:
The mother was happy to report that her two children are still symptom-free.
